A funny thing happened on the way back to the Kiosko. The scholarship awards went well. It
started at the public "kiosko" and I had each recipient come forward
to introduce and say a few words about himself or herself his/her ambitions,
etc. Just after each had spoken, the mayor sent his secretary over to have the
ceremony continued in his office at the municipal hall. The honorable Greg
Ricarte introduced me and said a few words about the scholarship. There I had
the chance to speak to the scholars about continuing their good work and
achieving success in their endeavours thru hard work. I emphasized the virtue
of honesty to oneself and to others and the value and importance of
communicating such virtue to those after them, that old simple adage we use to
hear from our elders, "honesty is the best policy".Then, we started
calling the names of the scholars from the list and the mayor was kind enough
to give a hand in handing out the awards. I thanked the mayor on behalf of the
members of OLAUSA for giving us the opportunity to use his office for this
purpose and announced that the 2008-2009 scholarship awards is over.

I invited a few people back to the kiosko to discuss some problems like non-appearance on the part of the scholar, and previous scholars not on the current list and some and just to solicit help and support from the organization I represent. As we walked back to the kiosko, someone prompted me to look over my shoulder. I saw a long line of people, the same people I walked in the municipal hall with; scholars, parents, younger children and all marching down Rizal monument back to the kiosko. It suddenly occurred to me that last year I invited them to Seventeen restaurant (which now has gone broke and closed). So they thought I might be leading them to another restaurant for merienda j ust like last year. So I turned back and
just said "sa usad a taun na naman" my way of saying no merienda this time, because of previous commitments and no Seventeen restaurant which has gone belly up, anyway. They quickly turned back with that embarrassed smile on their faces and so did I. Below: Mayor Greg Ricarte and the
legislative council headed by the
Hon. Arecio Rendor present to all oasnons thru me the
3-yr ELA (Executive Legislative Agenda) thru June, 2010. The mayor has been invited
to induct the in Coming officers of the OLAUSA on October 18, 2008.
